South Street Seaport
A designated historic landmark, the 200 year-old South Street Seaport is a treasure polished by the urban redevelopment effort to preserve the ambience and history of the city's once great seaport facilities. Its 11 cobblestone streets contain dozens of fashionable shops, gourmet food stores and restaurants housed in restored 19th-century buildings. While the tall-mast sailing vessels at the piers are interesting, the pier shops there have all the history of a shopping mall. But just wander down the cobblestone street in the early morn', with the lingering pungencies of the all-night Fulton Fish Market, take a cruise from one of the piers or catch a late-night chowder at one of the local restaurants. Tours available.
